BACK PAIN IN CHILDREN
Back pain in children and adolescents is not uncommon and it’s frequency increases with age. A back pain complaint persisting for more than 1 week, particularly if accompanied by systemic symptoms, should be taken seriously. A through history and physical examination should be done and followed by appropriate imaging studies and laboratory studies. If there are no positive findings, the patient should be treated symptomatically. If the problem persists, the patient should be re-evaluated and studies repeated if required. If a specific etiologic cause is determined, the treatment should be directed to this etiology.
