3. | Demographic features and indications of pregnant women with previous cesarean section Derya Sıkar, Levent Yaşar, Betül Battaloğlu İnanç, Nurgül Yaşar doi: 10.2399/tahd.13.63634 Pages 3 - 7 Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate sociodemographic factors, previous cesarean section indications and their differences according to hospital types (private/public) among the pregnant women with previous cesarean section who attended to Bak›rköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital antenatal clinic. Methods: A cross sectional analytic study is planned among 476 pregnant women with previous cesarean section who were attended to Bak›rköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training Hospital’s antenatal clinic between August 2006-March 2007. Results: 68.4% of the participants were between 20-29 years old, average age was 28.4±4.6, average number of pregnancies was 2.8±1.3, average number of parity was 1.4±0.7 and average number of living children was 1.3±0.6. Educational level and working status had significant impact on cesarean preference (p<0.001). Indications for cesarean section were, acute fetal distress, breech presentation and cephalopelvic disproportion and there was statisticaly significant difference between private and public hospitals (p<0.001). The most common reason for cesarean section was breech presantation in public hospitals. Cesarean indications differs significantly between private and public hospitals regarding to educational level (p=0.026) and working status (p=0.023) of participants. Women with on-demand cesarean section mostly preferred private hospitals (p=0.002). Conclusions: Educational level and working status were two important factors on prefering cesarean section. Well educated and working women prefer caesarean section and private hospitals more. |
4. | Mastalgia, anxiety and related factors: case-control study Nurgül Balcı, Vildan Kantekin, Didem Sunay, Osman Aydın, Nadir Turgut Çavuşoğlu, Yusuf Ergün, Oğuz Tekin, Onat Çakıt doi: 10.2399/tahd.13.24633 Pages 8 - 12 Objective: To compare anxiety levels of women presenting with mastalgia with control group, and also to determine possible risk factors. Methods: Women attended to out-patient clinics of Family Medicine, Gynecology and Surgery with complaint of mastalgia were included in case group, women having no problem or breast complaints were included in the control group of the study. Personal information form was used for information about socio-demographic characteristics, medical, obstetric and gynecological history, family history of breast cancer, medications used, smoking, breast feeding, breast self-examination practice. Beck Anxiety Scale was used to assess anxiety disorder. Results: A hundred and two women were included in case group and 102 women in control group. No significant differences were detected between groups in terms of menstrual period, menopause and breast self-examination practice. However, in case group marital status (p<0.001), parity (p=0.007), breast feeding (p=0.017) and family history for breast cancer (p=0.009) were significantly higher than control group. Smoking was significantly higher in control group than case group (p=0.001). Mean anxiety scores of case group were higher than control group (p=0.049). Marital status (p=0.021, OR=2.95 [%95 CI=1.1-7.4]), smoking (p=0.001, OR=3.15 [%95 CI=1.6-6.0]) and anxiety (p=0.009, OR=0.95 [%95 CI=0.9-0.9]) were found to be related to mastalgia. Conclusions: It is important to assess women presenting with mastalgia, in terms of anxiety disorder. |
